When having a hand knotted rug fringe repaired the fringe color must match the warp and weft threads.

Use a straight edge 1 1 2 2 from the crease and score the rug.
If the rug is older and is thought to have a high value do not cut the fringe as originality is a factor in collector carpets.
The repair expert will first secure the fringe and then cut to an even length if it is messy or damaged.
At this stage you don t want to cut all the way through then slowly finish cutting through the rug following the score while pulling up on the part you are cutting off.
Bleached fringing is not appropriate and will contrast too much with the dusky colors of an authentic oriental rug.
